#4 Ballast

#4 ballast rock is made from crushed, angular limestone. The pieces are usually between 1½ and 2½ inches in size. It was first used as a foundation support for railroad ties, but now it has many other applications.

Roadways:
Works well as a base layer under roads and driveways, helping to create a strong, stable surface.

Concrete Mixes:
Can be added to concrete to make it stronger and longer-lasting.

Backfilling:
Good for filling spaces around underground structures, giving support and helping water drain away.

Drainage:
Because water can flow through it easily, it’s great for use in drainage systems like French drains and behind retaining walls.

Farming and Construction:
Used under farm buildings and roads to add strength and help with drainage.
